What kind of traffic events will you notify me of ? We will send out information about any unusual, non – rush hour events that may cause delays. Examples include an accident on a major highway causing significant delays, a police sobriety checkpoint, or a road crew performing unscheduled work on a major roadway causing backups How often will I receive updates ? On average you will receive a text message about every week. The number of updates you receive depends on the number of major traffic events that occur in your area. By letting me know about police checkpoints, are you encouraging people to drink and drive? Absolutely not. Drinking anything at all and driving is dangerous for many reasons. It is always safer to take a cab. Please – leave the roads for the sober people. Police Departments recognize the value of this as well. It turns out that many DUI Checkpoints nab relatively few law breakers. Primarily, a DUI checkpoint serves as a reminder to sober and drunk people that it’s dangerous to drink and drive. Our intent when we send update about checkpoints is to remind you of the dangers of drinking and driving in a timely manner so you can make the smart decision to leave your car out of the equation. What does MADD think about all of this? MADD believes prior notification of DUI checkpoints is a positive thing. Their position is that when a person is notified of a checkpoint they think twice about getting in the car and driving. MADD knows that we cannot control a person’s decision but we can influence it with knowledge and education. Our intention is to make more people think twice before getting behind the wheel after drinking. In addition, we are donating a portion of our profits to MADD.
